Image Makers 12:30 p.m.- 2:30 p.m.  Making photographs that say “buy me!” on Ebay and Craigslist with photographer Terry Takaki.  Outstanding pictures will really help you get the best price for your items. They’ll sell faster because your buyers will see what they need to see.

Our guest expert, Terry Takaki, will conduct a hands-on workshop on how to make images of products using a table-top lightbox, lighting and backgrounds. You will learn how to use light to bring out the best features of your product. You will also receive instructions on how to make your very own lightbox from inexpensive materials.  Bring a small doll if you want to pickup tips on lighting and portraiture.  Location:  Second floor Ali’i Room.

Faithful Apple computer users have enjoyed the evolution of this amazing line as it kept its price range but increased its speed and memory exponentially.  Speed in consumer Macs has increased 3.2 millionfold, and memory has increased 4 billionfold. That evolution has kept HMAUS members busy learning and savoring life on the Apple side of the world.

On December 5, 2009 we celebrate HMAUS’ 30th Anniversary, the Macintosh’s 25th anniversary and coincidentally, the Internet’s 40th anniversary.   Join us for a buffet dinner, a some great HMAUS and Apple stories and lots of fun.

Joe Zaret, Apple Solutions Consultant based at Best Buy Iwilei will present a hands-on workshop on iMovie and iDVD on September 5th at ING Direct Cafe.  Participants should bring  their laptops with the current or a previous version  and will be led through the features of these products.

Gregg Kamei, Business Support Analyst and HMAUS member presents a hands-on iPhoto session at ING Direct Cafe on September 12th.  Participants bring their laptops with the current (preferred) or previous version of iPhoto and learn how to use its tools and functions.  Handouts are available at http://drop.io/hmaus_maclearn

You may want to arrive a little early for some of the speakers to get a good seat. The JAIMS buildings will be filled with Mac enthusiasts, experts, and “switchers” (PC users just starting to use Macs). So, no matter YOUR level of expertise, you’ll find someone there to learn and chat with.

You should bring some money with you, especially if you like bargains. The Professional Photographers of Hawaii and HMAUS will have a swapmeet — expect to find goodies for cameras and computers. If you like to blog, bring your camera and computer to capture the events. HMAUS sponsored HawaiiGeekWeek last year and brought out lots of social networking fans; posting to Twitter, Facebook, blogs, and videoblogs. We’re hoping to see lots of great posts about “MacSpringFest” this year!

As with HMAUS’s Mactoberfest, there will be some fun prizes and giveaways, and this time someone will win an iPod Touch!

Several new members joined in the planning session, including Kelvin Kakugawa and Manabo Sato.

Robert Katz let HMAUS use of his firm’s conference room at 700 Bishop Street for the whole afternoon.

Returning for a third term as president is Terrence Young. Bill Fuller also returns for another term as treasurer.

Adrienne Palmer and William “Wolfman” Gass, new directors, were elected to serve on the executive committee. Adrienne replaces Eugene Villaluz as secretary and Wolfman takes over the vice-presidency from Kimo Sutton.

Eugene Villaluz continues his appointment as membership chair and ambassador. Mark McMahon, recently appointed director, will assume resonsibilities for web development.

The board of directors meets on the third Saturday each month. On the agenda for the February meeting is planning and budgeting for the new year.

The HMAUS board of directors yesterday, unanimously elected Terrence Young for president for 2009.

Terrence joined HMAUS in 2000 and has been a director since 2003. This is Terrence’s third term as president. Terrence is a carpenter. He lives in Kaimuki with his wife Lynn.
