August 6, 2011 Create Project Lab 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.  This is an open lab just for HMAUS members to create their own projects using the iLife and iWork products.  There will be minireviews 9:45 -10:15  iPhoto, Keynote and 11:45 – 12:15 iMovie and Pages.  Join the review or just keep working on your project.  Free but please click the link to register for a seat.

August 6, 2011 Screen Capture 101 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.  Learn how to customize your built-in screen capture shortcuts to make them more practical, use SnapNDrag, a free screen capture software to drag and drop captures into your documents, and use Jing, another free capture program that also takes 5 minute videos.  Why?  To save things on your computer screen to share, ask for help, or save a video playing on your computer.  You upload it to Screencast.com and share with a link for free.  Snagit for Mac is not free, but you’ll see why its worth the bucks. good time but spend less money doing it? How does doing a day for less than the cost of two lunches back home sound? Marco Morawec, a shoestring travel expert, has traveled to almost 40 countries and just completed his around the world adventure.  He’ll tell you about catching a cab in New Dehli, eating steamed sheep head in Morocco and how to organize, finance and make your trip of a lifetime happen.  Marco also covers different travel blogging strategies, building and audience, tracking the traffic on your blog and goals measuring. 

If you like traveling, hearing funny stories from around the world and dig blogging, then this session is for you.

September 24 2011 Mail, Addressbook and iCal 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. Ross Rasmussen. Learn to use Apple Mail, a convenient way to have access to your mail accounts, whether MobileMe, Gmail or UH Mail.  Mail autocompletes email addresses, can add addresses and phone numbers in messages to your Addresssbook.   iCal is Apple’s online calendar. Make as many calendars as you wish, and view them in a combined calendar if you wish.   $5 Please click the link to register.

Ross Rasmussen will introduce you to iLife (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb) and show you what they have in common. This makes all the difference in the world when you’re trying to learn these powerful but fun programs.

Gregg Kamei will show you how to communicate from your Mac  using Mail, Addressbook, and iChat.  You have all kinds of tools built right into your Mac – Come learn how to use them.

Come and share your favorite Web 2.0 website.  These are websites which are often free for basic services that let you create and share content, access information and otherwise interact with the web and others. Weʻll demonstrate de.li.cious for saving and sharing bookmarks on any computer, Jing for making and uploading screen shots or video tutorials,  Wix.com for creating a Flash website and Worlde for making..Wordles like this one.  Web 2.0 apps are made for folks who want to do cool things but donʻt want to have to do an programming.  Theyʻre pretty plug and play.  If you have a favorite 2.0 site to share, bring the URL.  Weʻll have a laptop and projector.  Free.  ING Direct Cafe, 2nd floor conference room.

7/7 Wednesday 6 – 7:30 pm Image Makers presents Hands-on Intro to Photoshop Elements by Joan Matsukawa followed by watch and do lessons with Lesa Snider’s Kelby Online videos $5 for members, $10 for non-members for both sessions.   Limit 10, members have priority.

Boot Camp #1  Mac 101. 7/24 (new date) This is our first full day hands-on boot camp to get you started with your Mac. Hear it, do it, master it! This is your base set of skills. We’ll cover Leopard/Snow Leopard tips; how to find, view and organize files efficiently, short cuts and an introduction to the suite of iapps that come with your Mac.  Come and immerse yourself for a day and walk away with real skill. New Date:  Saturday, July 24,  2010 9 am – 3 pm $15 for members, $25 for non-members including b/w handouts and a beverage. Space limited.

Shooting for the Web Saturday July 10  3 p.m. to 7 p.m. This session starts out at ING Cafe for a photography workshop on using your camera and editing your photos. Then we move to Magic Island for a sunset photoshoo. Cost TBA, priority to members.

Apple Automator premade “macros” or scripts that help you do things you do over and over again on your Mac with a couple of keystrokes.  One example is Duplicator Annihilator which searches your computer and brings up duplicate images you have stored here there and everywhere.  Gregg Kamei presenting, tentative date July 14 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Are you new to Macintosh?

You knew Windows and you knew it well. But you’ve since added a Macintosh to your life and feeling a little unsure about this new relationship. The Mac 101 workshop at the Mac Springfest will help you achieve better harmony in your digital home.

Mac 101 is a class for newbies, switchers and for people who just haven’t had time to really get to know their Mac. We will look around the desktop, explore at the Dock, get an understanding of the System Preferences, learn some shortcuts and, most importantly, try to answer your questions. This is a good class for people who have switched to Macintosh or are planning to switch to Macintosh and want to understand their machine a little better. This session is very low key and relaxed.
